Lake Anna was created in 1972, by the Dominion Power Company, by building a dam on the North Anna River at what is now the east end of Lake Anna. Resulting flooding of the North Anna and Pamunkey rivers to the west, created what is now our Lake Anna, the 2nd largest lake contained within the boundaries of Virginia.

Lake Anna Happenings

Summer

That sure sign of the end of summer- those big yellow school buses are hitting the roads again. School starts in August in this part of Virginia. The early start has more to do with state mandated tests than the weather I hear. We are fortunate to have really good school systems with teachers that care about these kids as individuals. What they may be missing in the frills of big city education is certainly made up by the one on one caring.

Something new has been added to the entertainment schedule here at Lake Anna. Boat in movies! Yes, you go by boat, tune your radio to a station and snuggle under your blanket while watching movies that were once first run. I wouldn't go for the movies but the fun of rafting up with another boat of friends and sharing good eats is what pulls folks in. It's free and the movies are all PG rated.

Speaking of a good time, we went to a pig roast/blue grass concert at Lake Anna winery last week and it was lots of fun! Maybe I had more fun than most because I found out too late that you were just suppose to sip the wines during the tasting part and not drain the glass. We also had a new restaurant open on the lake that is accessible by boat - The Annacabana. I haven't been there yet but I hear the food is great. I hope they will remain open all year. The annual Belmont horse show was last weekend. This event has been held for over 100 years and it benefits local charities greatly. Some people go for the horses and lots more go to eat the great home made food. Mark it on your calendar for next year as not to be missed.

The market is definitely improving. Homes that are priced correctly are selling in 30/45 days now. There are some wonderful bargains to be had. I can for see people in the future saying "I should have bought in 08!" Our office is doing very well. We are looking forward to a strong Fall.

My garden is in full produce now. I have found that I am a great watermelon and cantaloupe farmer! My sunflowers look like they are 15 feet tall and my freezer is bulging with corn, beans etc. Fall can't be to far behind.
